The Ailette leisure centre has been totally transformed – demolished, completely rebuilt and re-opened last June.
Cet été, mettez le cap vers l’Aisne. This summer set sail for the Aisne!
These new water sports facilities, in conjunction with the recently completed ‘Voie Verte’, make the Ailette valley a particularly attractive destination for local people and tourists.
The project, costing 10 million €uros (jointly financed by Europe, the Picardy Region and the Aisne department) is completely in line with eco-friendly policy. Every care was taken to minimise environmental impact - choice of materials, setting up of the construction site, integration of the new architecture and lavish new planting, including many local varieties.
This water sports centre will cater for schools, children’s outdoor activity centres, tourists and people staying at Center Parcs, offering courses in catamaran and dingy sailing as well as windsurfing. There are also activities on ‘terra firma’, such as archery, table tennis, beach volleyball and orienteering.
Management are also aiming to achieve “official status as a venue for competitions at national level”. Some minor works need to be carried out before this can happen.
The buildings cover 4,000 sq. m. and comprise 3 meeting rooms, a refectory and dormitories for up to 95 people. Three separate entities occupy the new buildings: the Syndicat Mixte de l’Ailette (Ailette Combined Association), the Maison des Associations (centre for local associations) and the sailing school. They will be in charge of organising activities and training.
So, come on in the water’s lovely! This summer set sail for the Aisne!
